About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

FC Bayern München delivered a commanding performance in their Bundesliga clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach, securing a 4-1 victory at home. This result was largely anticipated given Bayern's strong form and league position, contrasting with Mönchengladbach's struggles this season. The match began with Bayern asserting their dominance early on, and it was Luis Díaz (GAP +6.9%) who opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Konrad Laimer (GAP +7.9%) doubled the lead just before halftime, giving Bayern a comfortable cushion going into the break. The second half saw a significant turning point when Rocco Reitz received a red card in the 55th minute, leaving Mönchengladbach with ten men. Bayern capitalized on this advantage swiftly, with Jamal Musiala (GAP +4.5%) adding a third goal in the 57th minute. Nicolas Jackson (GAP +6.1%) rounded off Bayern's scoring in the 79th minute, further emphasizing their superiority. Mönchengladbach managed a consolation goal in the 89th minute through Wael Mohya, but it was too little, too late for the visitors. Tactically, Bayern's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, reflecting confidence in his squad's current form. In contrast, Mönchengladbach's head coach made several adjustments, introducing Shuto Machino, Fabio Chiarodia, and Lukas Ullrich as substitutes, though these changes were unable to alter the course of the game significantly. Joshua Kimmich (GAP +9.8%) and Manuel Neuer (GAP +9.6%) were instrumental in maintaining Bayern's control throughout the match, with Kimmich orchestrating play from midfield and Neuer providing his usual assurance in goal. This victory solidifies Bayern's position at the top of the Bundesliga, extending their lead and maintaining their momentum as they push towards another league title. For Mönchengladbach, the defeat highlights the challenges they face in climbing up the table, as they continue to struggle against top-tier opposition.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
